Association Of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA)

The Association of Residential Letting Agents is the UK’s foremost professional body for letting agents. Its members are professionals working at all levels of letting agency, from business owners to office employees.

ARLA was formed in 1981 as the professional and regulatory body for letting agents in the UK. It was recognised that the requirements of the residential lettings market were so detailed and specific that a separate organisation was required to promote standards in this important and growing sector of the property market.

Today, with our head office based in Warwick, and our additional offices in London and Edinburgh, our key roles include providing help and guidance for property professionals across a broad spectrum of disciplines while continually campaigning across the UK to make the property market more efficient and user-friendly for the home buying and selling public.

As a leading player in the property industry, ARLA offers significant benefits to letting agents and consumers alike.

Institute Of Residential Property Managers (IRPM)

The IRPM was launched in early 2002 as a means of delivering a portable professional qualification in residential property management, available to anyone working in the sector, and one which would be accepted by all those operating within it.

The Association of Residential Managing Agents (ARMA,)Association of Retirement Housing Managers (ARHM) and the Property Managers Association Scotland (PMAS) were founding sponsors in 2002.

London Landlords Accreditation Scheme (LLAS)

The LLAS recognises the utmost importance of landlords having a wide and detailed knowledge of the many issues surrounding the letting of residential property.

Educational development of participating landlords will therefore form the king-pin of this scheme to ensure that they fully understand their obligations not only in a legal sense, but also the more general responsibility they have to the communities in which their properties are situated. Issues such as current legislation, basic structural requirements, tenancy agreements, inventory control, gas/electrical safety, harassment and illegal eviction will be covered, as well as the delivery of comprehensive information on Housing Benefit procedures and other relevant matters.
